Researching and sharing the contribution of migrants to the history and culture of the North East.
Led by people with experience of migration in the UK
NEMP is a community organisation established to research and disseminate experiences of migration in the North East. The North East is an area built on migration and we aim to record and share the ways that migrant communities have shaped and contributed towards the culture of the North East.
NEMP runs the Stockton Migration Café, providing a safe space for asylum seekers and refugees to meet together and share food, culture and support. The café is led by people who have, themselves, experienced the asylum process in the UK. We run a monthly community meal that focuses on social support, developing skills and strengthening resilience. We aim to develop the confidence of people who have migrated to Stockton, and focussing on their resilience by cooking for their peer group.

Our community
The management committee and volunteers who work at the project are from the refugee and asylum community and represent a range of linguistic and cultural groups. We want to empower people within the community to be active in leading and providing the support which the asylum and refugee community needs.
